Science Fair: Saturday, March 4, 2017

  • Pilot Program for 8th Graders: Project Boards Optional with Multi-Media Presentation!  This year, 8th grade students registered for the Chester Science Fair have the option of using their Chrome Book or laptop to augment their spoken presentations to the judges; the project board is “optional” for those students that choose the Multi-Media Presentation.  8th grade students may use a combination of paper, project board, media, and speaking.  Scoring metrics do not change.  Students are still responsible for everything on the judge sheet.  ​Note:  Students may not simply play a video of themselves presenting their project. Students must present their projects “live” and answer questions from the judges. The standard judge time for 8th graders is 15 minutes.  Students should allow 5 minutes (out of the 15) for Q & A with the judges. 
  • Chester Science Fair Continues Forging Relationships with Rutgers University!  The RU Food Science Grad Student Assoc. and the RU Science, Math, and Engineering Outreach (RUSMEO) will be back with food science experiments and Circuit Design with Snap Circuits.
  • Continued Sustainability Goals  Here are some steps we're taking this year to make the Chester Science Fair more sustainable:
    • ONLINE PROGRAM: The Chester Science Fair Program will be available for download as a .pdf file.  We will include the link on our website and in your project location email.  This will reduce our printing costs as well as the amount of paper left behind to recycle at the end of the Fair.
    • REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES: There is a water bottle filling station in the cafeteria at BRMS and good drinking fountains in the 6th grade wing.  Please bring your own water bottle OR purchase a 17 ounce reusable, stainless steel "Chester Science Fair" water bottle ($5) and fill it at the Fair.  (Note: All stainless steel "Chester Science Fair" water bottles are pre-washed before Fair Day.  Sharpie markers will be available to label your bottle.)  This will reduce/eliminate the hundreds of plastic bottles left behind at the end of the Fair.  
    • EXHIBIT / FLOOR PLAN INFO: Small flyers with the Fair Floor Plan, Exhibit Locations, and Show Times will be available in the lobby as needed, rather than placed at every project location.  This reduces printing costs as well as the amount of paper left behind at the end of the Fair.  Please note that Exhibit locations and times are also posted online well in advance of Fair Day, so you can plan your day in advance.  Check out the Exhibits link on our website. 
    • TABLET APP FOR JUDGES: A tablet application is available for Judges to use for scoring projects, replacing the paper system. 
  • Mentoring sessions will be held again this year at the Chester Library by appointment only.  Please e-mail  chestersfmentor@gmail.com for additional information. BRMS students:  Mr. Stagg is available By Appointment for help after school on Wednesdays until 3:30 pm. Please schedule at least one day in advance and bring a note for parent pickup.
  • Family Portal:  Add family members, update family information, register projects, register for Special Awards, and see all past Fair results! 
  • Sign into the Family Portal on Friday afternoon, March 3, to get your table location.
  • Awards Assemblies will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Bragg:  3rd Grade:  10:40 - 11:00 a.m. ,  4th Grade:  10:10 - 10:30 a.m., 5th Grade:  11:10 - 11:30 a.m. in the Gym
